Silene comes from a mixed indigenous Bri Bri and Spanish ancestry, but was "lucky" enough to experience the wider world when she was sent to live with an aunt in Miami for her school years.  She came home at 17 years old to find love and a very different life in the Caribe Sur, and now raises her own children in an isolated banana community of the Valle D'estrella. But her years in the US proved useful when she was hired for the important job as the only English-speaking Tour Guide at the Bocuare rainforest park near the plantation zone.

She's determined that her kids make the best of the educational opportunities provided by the relative stability and incomes of the banana business...by finding a way out of that future as soon as possible!
